Mongolian Women Get Hold of Hardware in Russia Print E-mail

ImageRussia won seven gold medals to rank first, and Mongolia won one silver and three bronze medals in the gold medal table of the Golden Grand Prix of the FILA International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament.


Ukraine and Japan finished second in the tally with two gold medals, respectively. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the United States and Belarus each grabbed one gold medal.

The tournament named for Olympic and World Champion Ivan Yarigin, was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia on January 29-31, 2010.

 A total of 267 wrestlers from 22 countries competed, including 15 male and 11 female freestyle wrestlers from Mongolia in FILA’s top event.

Among the women, the Bronze medalist from the World Championships, B.Odonchimeg, received a silver medal this time, in the 67kg division.

Mongolian B.Oyunsuren defeated the silver medalist from the World Championships, Yulia Bartnovskaya (Russia), and she took home a bronze medal in the 67kg event. Ekatrina Burmistrova took the gold medal in the division.

G.Naranchimeg (72kg) and N.Altantuya (55kg) each won bronze medals in the tournament.

Ekatrina Bukina (Russia) received a gold medal and Ali Anabeli (Cameroon) took the silver medal in the 72kg division.

Natalya Golits was awarded the gold medal, Irina Kisel won a silver medal and Irina Ologonova won the bronze medal in the 55kg event.

Mongolian State Honored Athlete O.Burmaa lost her semifinal match to World Champion Stanka Zlateva and she finished in fifth place in the 72kg division, as she had also done at the World Championships.

For men, T.Davaakhuyag was defeated by the bronze medalist from the World Championships, Viktor Belonovski, and he finished in fifth place overall, in the men’s 55kg event.
