The public will gain access to one-third of the Children’s Park this summer following extensive renovation, a government spokesperson said this week.
The National Recreation and Amusement Centre is having a US$60 million total renovation by a Japanese-sponsored project.
B.Batnyagt, a coordinator of the renovation project, is aiming to have the section open for the public by June 1.
“We’re not aiming to open it on June 1, or Children’s Day, if it will be too hurried.

“Most importantly, we aim to install quality and real-life obstacle courses and equipment, including a 45-meter high Ferris Wheel,” Batnyagt said.
The park was first opened in 1966 and covers 35 hectares of land, or roughly 30 percent of the capital city’s green space.
Most of the outdated and old-fashioned equipment is being transported to a scrap iron disposal site, said Batnyagt.

“But some useable courses are being donated for use in ten provincial centers, including Zuunmod, Ulaangom and Ondorkhaan.”
Some of the equipment, including Space Rides, Space Launch, Rolling Transport and Thrilled Drive, were shipped to the Tov aimag last week. Local authorities play to install them in its small park before Children’s Day.

The old Ferris Wheel, which is 30-meters high, has been shipped to Khentii aimag where it is hoped to last for another ten years.
Fourteen new obstacle courses, made in China using European technologies and standards, are ready to be imported, Batnyagt said.
“The park is projected to be available all year round after it’s fully operational in 2009.

“Around 20 to 30 percent of all obstacle courses will be indoor. In two years, we also plan to install a new package of obstacle courses and equipment.”
