Saudi Arabian prince and billionaire, Alwaleed bin Talel bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company, along with his wife Ameera, visited Mongolia last Tuesday, March 18. His visit was at the official invitation from President N.Enkhbayar. Upon his arrival, Prince Alwaleed and his delegation met with N.Enkhbayar, President of Mongolia and S.Bayar, prime minister. Alwaleed expressed his interest in the field of tourism in Mongolia to the president. The president added that tourism is a main branch for the economy.

The tourism also helps to improve the infrastructure and in erecting power stations and buildings for the countryside. The president cordially greeted and welcomed Prince Alwaleed and thanked him for accepting his invitation. A meeting was held following the reception where they discussed bilateral relations between Mongolia and Saudi Arabia. A number of social and economic issues that pertain to both countries and investment opportunities in Mongolia, were also discussed. During the visit, Prince Alwaleed was awarded the “Chinggis Khaan” honorary medal of the 800th anniversary of the Great Mongolian Statehood by the president. Afterwards, S.Bayar, Prime Minister of Mongolia received the Prince.

Princess Ameera met with First Lady, Mrs. O.Tsolmon. They focused on cultural and humanitarian projects in Mongolia.
The Prince was an internationally renowned businessman and investor who became a self-made billionaire at the age of 31. He was ranked the fourth-wealthiest person in the world by Forbes magazine in 2004. Although he started investing in businesses in Saudi Arabia, he amassed his large fortune by investing in companies around the world in a variety of industries, including construction and banking. Not only did he become a successful businessman, but he also helped to change international perceptions of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While the business world in the early 21st century tended to think of Saudi Arabia as traditional and private, he was an example of a very modern businessman who was open to the media and the public. “I want my voice to be heard,”Bin Talil” told Forbes magazine (August 8, 1988). “I would love to be a corporate leader.” He made his mark on the international scene in 1990 when he bought almost five percent of Citicorp’s shares. At that time the company was on the verge of bankruptcy, but in only a couple of years it turned around, and he profited billions. In subsequent years, he bought minority stakes in numerous foreign companies, including some of America’s largest firms.

In 2003 he owned small percentages of stock in Amazon.com, eBay, AOL Time Warner, Ford Motor Company, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, Pepsi, and the Walt Disney Company, among others. When Forbes magazine released its 2007 billionaires list, he ranked 13th. Some have nicknamed him as the Arabian Warren Buffett. He is an owner of Kingdom Holding Company and Kingdom Hotel Investment Group.
