S.Sarantsatsralt could be the most famous female painter in Mongolia. People know her by unique hairstyle and rock image. But her paintings tell many stories about their creator more than appearance. For me, I feel independence and energy from her works. And even though, her paintings and sculptures often remain some questions to audience. Maybe this question leads us to a meditation of life.
S.Sarantsatsralt was born in 1962 in Ulaanbaatar. She graduated from the Fine Art College and from the Art and Culture University of Ulaanbaatar. She currently paints with oil paints and she expresses her work on quite large canvas in a modern style. Her first exhibition opened in 1991. At this time, Mongolians were passing through a tough time. They said goodbye to socialism and met new society called “Democracy”. However, there were no products in the shops, no food in the fridge and people received a food cart from government. However, their brains were more starved than their stomachs and just a few artists gave spiritual food to people. S.Sarantsatralt was one of them. She could have done a different job which paid more money like other artists, but instead she was honest with art. Honest with her true tendency. About five years ago, she represented Mongolia’s first synthesis art show called “Anatomy”. “The show was combination of painting, calligraphy, music, dance and poem. Talented Mongolian poets, such as B.Galsansukh, L.Ulziitugs, L.Dashnym, R.Emujin joined. She wanted to audience to feel something different from the show,” said American poet Lisa Fink. “I am an optimistic person. But my paintings could be pessimistic. What is important for life? For me it’s a meditation of life. Every single person suffers from pain, aging and death. Most people believe that it is forbidden to talk about death. They think it is bad luck. But we don’t really know about death. When we die, our body and soul could be transforms another form. Maybe we are reborn. I always think about things like this. And it is reflected in my works,” said S.Sarantsatsralt.
