Music is an integral part of Mongolian culture. Among the unique contributions from Mongolia to the world's musical cultures are the long songs, overtone singing, and “morin khuur,” the horse-headed fiddle. But nowadays Mongolians don’t often listen to traditional music. Then Singer D.Bold made real new style of music with his “Mongol Pop” album.
“Mongol Pop” concert was held at UB Palace on November 24-26, coinciding with the 87th Mongolian Independence Day. I watched the “Mongol Pop” concert on November 25.
I came to UB palace at 6:30 pm, with the start time of the concert to be 7 pm. However, late many people were late. Soon people grew impatient and began to yell,  “Come on Bold!”. With this prompting he came on stage and started his first song, “Taliin Salkhi” (Steppe Wind). He wore a Mongolian “deel” with a touch of Western style.

Concert had the 2 main parts. First part was songs from his album “Mongol Pop”, and second part was his best-known hit songs. People really liked his new songs such as “Amidral duul gelee” (Life Said For Me to Sing), “Manan” (Fog), and “Minii 2 Erdene” (My 2 Gems).
He sang “Goo Amrag” (Beautiful Darling) with members of Shurankhai group. It is considered a long song (Urtyn duu) because each syllable of text is extended for a long duration. A four-minute song may only consist of ten words.
The real purpose of “Mongol Pop” was to use traditional Mongolian music with his pop songs. He had shown real Mongolian tradition with his songs, music, clothes, and stage set up.
During the second part of the concert audiences were so excited, he sang his real pop songs and danced.
He had surprised his fans by making the tickets for the concerts similar to a snuff bottle cloth bag. Fans could keep this 15000 MNT ticket for their album collections. The next surprise was that he called out to his fans over Facebook to bring the Mongolian flags, and promised he would bring one himself in return. Thus UB Palace was covered with the Mongolian flag for three days.
D. Bold was joined on stage by the best Mongolian acts including “3 Girls”, who sang as vocalists, singer Tselmuun, the Morin Khuur Ensemble, the State Philharmonic Symphonic Orchestra and dancers from the National Song and Dance Ensemble.
The singer, producer, and founder of the “Mongol Pop” Genre Dorjsuren Bold enrolled in the Mongolian Music College in 1986 and graduated in 1997 majoring in violin and piano. He was the leader of the Mongolian boy band “Camerton” in 1995, and released his first solo album, “Power of Love” in 2005, starting his solo career as a singer. Since then, the tenor voiced singer has release several albums, entitled “Power of Love”, “440Hz”, “Life’s Lead Role”, “Only One”, “Mongol Pop” and two DVDs.
He has also worked as producer, he established his B Production Studio in 2006 working with singers and bands such as Maraljingoo, Egshiglen, DZman, Agiimaa, and “3 Girls”. He tried out film in 2009, playing the lead role in the second part of the movie “I Love You.”
To end the concert he sang “Kheeriin salkhitai ayalguu” (Melody with the Wild Wind) and said his dream is to bring the “Mongol Pop” genre to the international stage.
