186.7 kilometers cycling lane available in 3 years if financing allows

With the initiative of the Mongolian Youth Federation (MYF), the Ulaanbaatar (UB) Bicycle Project was improved, and over 25,000 Ulaanbaatar residents offered support to the project.

In total, the project will require 35 billion MNT.

The MYF requested 10 billion MNT from state budget for 2014 to build 58 kilometers of bicycle lane throughout Ulaanbaatar for the initial phase of the project.

The President of MYF, A.Munkhbat said that if the project financing is approve by the government and the parliament alike, not only a 186.7 kilometers cycling lane, but also 99 fully equipped bicycle parking lots will be available for the residents within just three years.

If cycling lanes are built in Ulaanbaatar, it will provide support both younger and senior residents to use bicycles which will greatly benefit the city’s traffic congestion rate as well as help reduce air pollution contributed from vehicles.

The project coordinators also emphasize that the cycling lanes will promote healthy lifestyle and contribute to the good health of city dwellers.

The biggest bicycle trail in UB today is located at the National Garden Park which is 2.9 kilometers long.
