The Mayor Ulaanbaatar City, E.Bat-Uul met delegates from Japanese Mitsubishi Motors Corporation on November 14.

The delegates expressed their gratitude for the warm reception by the mayor talked about widening the use of electric cars to combat air pollution in the capital.

“We are suggesting electric cars manufacture by Mitsubishy which run on 100 percent electric fuel and fully rechargeable. When fully charged, the car can travel up to 150 km. It is well suited Ulaanbaatar as it does not emit any gas or waste which could help drop the air pollution rate to in the city contributed by vehicles.”

The Mayor E.Bat-Uul replied, “We are paying a special attention to reduce air and soil pollution which are the most pressing issue for Ulaanbaatar. Studies show that around 20 percent of Ulaanbaatar is caused by vehicles, and we are currently looking into ways to introduce eco friendly vehicles. During my visit to Japan, I was introduced to electric cars as possible solution to decrease air pollution.  We believe that electric cars could be the ideal product to resident’s demand. Therefore want to test three electric cars to see if they are fit for Mongolia’s harsh climate and roads.  If they prove effective, the Ulaanbaatar Administration is ready to collaborate with Mitsubishi Motors to import fully electric cars.”
