Mongol Post sees improvements and expansions

By M.ZOLJARGAL

Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag handed eight vehicles for long-distance postal delivery services to state-owned Mongol Post on October 30. The vehicles were made in Korea, each with the capacity to carry 50 ton loads, strong cross-country capacity, and fully equipped for accurate and efficient delivery. The vehicles will deliver mail from Ulaanbaatar to Zamiin-Uud, Orkhon, Darkhan-Uul, Bulgan and Selenge provinces.
The New Government for Changes is set to implement five projects for postal service development at a cost of 1.9 billion MNT. The acquisition of the transport logistic vehicles was the first of the projects.
The Prime Minister said during an event to present the vehicles, “Soon, our citizens will no longer be bothered to have their post or freight carried by people traveling to the provinces. They will just open their smart post box near their homes with their password given by the Post Office and instantly take their mail. A reformed system that will simplify postal service will soon be launched in Mongolia.”
In the second stage of the project, postal delivery officials will be provided with laptops and monitoring systems based on GPS tracking, and 20 smart post boxes will be installed in Ulaanbaatar. The Agency for Information Technology, Post and Communications plans to finish this project.

Below is a short interview with B.Sodchimeg, Post Usage and Technology Agency chief of Mongol Post.

-How will the new vehicles benefit postal service in Mongolia?
-It is the first time that Mongol Post has launched long-distance transport logistics services by vehicle. Before, we delivered the post to provinces via airplanes and trains. Now that we have our own delivery vehicles, people’s mail and freight will be delivered in only two to three days. We will set off our first-ever postal delivery to Zamiin-Uud at 5 a.m. on October 31. Any freight can be delivered, sustaining its original quality, as the vehicles also have refrigeration systems.
-How much will it cost to send items of post?
-We will charge 300 MNT per kilogram for mail and freight.
