‘Vertifight’ electro dance championship takes place

By B.Anu

The Mongolian Electro Dance Federation held the “Vertifight” fourth electro dance championship at the National Amusement Park on August 17. Dancers aged from 12 to 22 participated in this championship and competed in dance battle categories of boy solo, girl solo, 2 vs. 2, and team vs. team. Over 44 dancers participated in the boy solo battle and a member of the “E Core” dance crew, Gantulga, won the competition. Misheel took first place in the girl solo battle from a total of six participants. Electro dancers battled in two 30-second rounds. Tournaments of 2 vs. 2 and team vs. team were judged based on the dancers’ synchronicity and special movements. Two members of the “Intense” dance crew, Khashchuluun and Davaa, won in the 2 vs. 2 battle; while the “Madness” dance crew won in the team vs. team tournament for the third time. Here is a brief interview with a member of the “Vertifight” International Electro Dance Federation and one of the judges of the competition, B.Bilguun.

-         How is this year’s competition different from previous ones?

-         The dancers’ skills have been improving over the years. The Electro Dance Federation is organizing free training sessions for children in order to develop this type of dance. We hold monthly competitions and give ranks and titles to our dancers. There are junior, beginner, normal, advanced, and professional ranks and each rank has five stars to be filled before moving up to the next. One dancer took the professional title from this year’s competition.

-         How many electro dancers are there in Mongolia? It has been noticed that there are only a few girl dancers of this type of dance.

-         In any country, there are few girl dancers. Only six girls participated in this year’s competition. There are over 200 children who are interested in electro dance in Mongolia. Electro dance originated from the “Metropolis” club in Paris, France. This dance is widespread in France and Russia. Dancers perform 70 percent of electro dance movements with their arms.
