Winners of the “Cultural Heritage through children’s eyes”competition announced

Seven-year-old student of School 20 N.Badarmaa won first place at the “Cultural Heritage through Children’s Eyes” painting competition. Second place went to the G.Nominjin (eight years of age) of School 33, and B.Munkhnaran (six years old) took the third place.
The Mongolian National Commission of UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organzation) organized the competition with the aim of promoting the intangible Mongolian cultural items on UNESCO’s Safeguarding List and increasing knowledge and awareness of Mongolia’s cultural heritage among its children.
The painting competition was also part of the celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian National Commission of UNESCO and the Tenth Anniversary of UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A total of 85 children participated in the competition under several themes: Morin Khuur (horse-headed fiddle), traditional long folk song, bii byelgee (traditional dance), the Eagle Festival, tsuur (traditional wooden wind instrument), and Limbe folk song performances, all of which are Mongolian heritage items described in UNESCO’s safeguarding list.
Painter and member of the Union of Mongolian Artists B.Bayart-Od, arts teacher of the Children’s Palace G.Batbayar, and Secretary General of the Mongolia National Commission for UNESCO G.Jargalsaikhan were the judges at the competition.
