Women’s basketball team takes silver in Asia Championship

The Mongolian women’s basketball won a silver medal at the inaugural Asia 3*3 Championship from FIBA (International Basketball Federation, in French) on May 16. This is the first ever medal for the team from such a large international tournament.
The Mongolian team competed in the “B Group” along with teams from India, Lebanon, and Nepal. In the elimination stage, the team beat Lebanon and Nepal but lost to India. However, Mongolia ranked second in the group to advance to the quarterfinals. The team beat Sri-Lanka with a score of 18:13, and Turkmenistan with 19:17 in the quarterfinals.
They were matched against India in the final, but were defeated with a score of 14:21 to win a silver medal.
The Mongolian women team members were B.Altanzaya, D.Ganzul, J.Ishtuya, and B.Solongo and they were coached by International Sports master coach Sh.Sedbazar.
Both the Mongolian women’s and men’s team competed in the tournament which took place in Doha, Qatar from May 15 to 16. A total of 16 men’s and nine women’s teams competed in the tournament.
