Mongolian para-athlete to attend World Championships

Mongolian para-athlete G.Sambuudanzan, who took gold medals in both the shot put and javelin throw categories at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix in China this month will take part in the IPC Athletics World Championships in France later this year.
The IPC Athletics Grand Prix took place in Beijing between April 22 and 25. About 120 disabled athletes from eight countries, including Mongolia, Brunei, Iraq, Sri Lanka and host country, China, competed in the tournament.
The Mongolian team consisted of eight athletes and was coached by coaches G.Batdorj, V.Vandan-Ochir, and D.Tumur.
Two other Mongolian athletes won medals at the event. One was U.Uuganbayar, who competed in the F58 category (for athletes in a wheelchair who are competing in field events) and took a silver medal in the shot put, and a bronze medal in the javelin throw. The other Mongolian athlete to win a medal was Garmaabazar, who took a silver medal in the men’s 1,500 meter race in the T46 category (for athletes with single arm amputation).
The IPC Beijing Grand Prix was the second of the six IPC Athletics Grand Prix planned this spring and summer. The next Grand Prix tournaments will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Grosseto, Italy; Arizona, USA and Berlin, Germany.
The aim of the Grand Prix is to provide high level international competition, while supporting local organizing committees, and providing pillars of excellence to support development in areas of para-athletics, such as classification, education, research and anti-doping.
