O.Nasanburmaa wins Asian Wrestling Championship

The Mongolian wrestling team ranked eighth at the Asian Associated Wrestling Championship which took place in New Delhi, India from April 18 to 23, 2013. The Mongolian team  won one gold, four silverand three bronze medals. Mongolian freestyle wrestler O.Nasanburmaa took home the only gold medal on Sunday, beating Indian wrestler Navjot Kaur in the final of the women’s 67 kg category.

On Monday, the final day of the championships, International sports master G.Mandakhnaran who competed in the men’s 66 kg, took a silver medal by beating wrestlers from Japan, Iran and South Korea. He was beaten by the host Indian wrestler in the gold medal bout.

On this day, Mongolian wrestler D.Khuderbulga won a bronze medal in the men’s 96 kg category by overcoming his Chinese opponent. This was his second bronze from the Asian Championship following his bronze medal at last year’s Asian Championship held in South Korea.

Other medal winning athletes from the team are as follows; T.Munkhtuya (women’s 59 kg), B.Odonchimeg (women’s 72 kg), and J.Chuluunbat (men’s 120 kg). They each won silver medals each in their respective weight categories, B.Nomin (men’s 55 kg) and Sh.Tumentsetseg (women’s 63 kg) each took bronze medals.

The Asian Associated Wrestling Championship or the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship marked the 26thcompetition among male wrestlers, and the 16th competition among the female wrestlers. This year over 200 athletes from 20 countries competed in the championship. South Korea ranked first with 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, and Uzbekistan, Japan, and China took the following places respectively. The host India, placed fifth with 2 gold, one silver, and 6 bronze medals, which is the best ever performance for India.

Mongolian wrestlers took the Asian Championship’s gold medals only two times before; International Sports master Ch.Ganzorig became the Asian Champion in 2006 and State Honored Athlete Ts.Enkhjargal won a gold medal in 2007.
