S.Battsetseg claims a bronze

On Wednesday, August 8, the Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling tournaments of the London Olympics started and two Mongolian women wrestlers competed in their bouts. State Honored Athlete of Mongolia and 2010 World Champion S.Battsetseg, wrestled in the women’s 63 kg freestyle and took the second bronze medal for Mongolia.She therefore became the first women athlete to receive an Olympic medal in the freestyle wrestling category and also brought home the first Olympic medal which Mongolian freestyle wrestlers have been waiting for 32 years. S.Battsetseg who had a bye in the first round, was matched against the Sylvie Datty-Ngonga Tara-Agoue of the Central African Republic and secured a 4:0 win over her in the 1/8 round. She then beat European Champion Anastasija Grigorjeva of Latvia in the next round and got herself a place in the semifinals. However, she lost her bout for the silver medal against Kaori Icho of Japan. She defeated Martine Dugrenier of Canada by 0:3 in the bronze medal bout.
On a side note, Mongolia is certain to earn more medals as two boxers are guaranteed at least bronze medals each after both won their quarterfinal bouts. State Honored Athlete of Mongolia N.Tugstsogt, who became a 2009 World Champion at 17 years of age, secured a tight victory over his opponent Jasurbek Latipov of Uzbekistan. He beat him by 15:10 on August 7 in his flyweight quarterfinals. He will fight against Misha Aloian of Russia in the semifinals tomorrow at 3.30 am August 11, Mongolian time. On August 8, U.Munkh-Erdene, a veteran boxer attending his third Olympics, competed in his welterweight division. He also fought bravely and defeated his strong quarterfinal opponent the host country’s Thomas Stalker by 22:23. His next fight is on August 10 at 9.45 pm, Mongolian time. All Mongolians are hoping they get gold medals.
