Mongolian designer to present her show in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo

The UB Post previously reported that Mongolian designer S.Ariunaa was set to participate in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo, Japan from March 18 to 22.

S.Ariunaa is a very successful designer who  graduated from the Bremen’s Art School in Germany. She launched her own brand name, ‘Ariunaa Suri,’ in Germany that was highly esteemed by the clientele there.

The designer and her team who will attend this fashion event in Tokyo held a press conference last Monday about her preparations for the show. The following is a short interview with S.Ariunaa.

-How were you qualified to take part in this event?

-I have begun making my new designs since last September. I was quite satisfied with them and encouraged by them so I decided to send my application which included my designs and previous work experience to the organizers of this event. I received the decision that I was qualified in late January. I didn’t expect to be invited to the main show, except for the other small events. So we are very happy that we are now part of the main event.

-Could you tell us more about this event?

-The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is one of the Top Five fashion weeks in the world and is considered as one of the most influential in the fashion world. It is sponsored by the Mercedes-Benz brand. Mercedes-Benz has been holding this event for over 10 years given that luxurious cars and haute couture are both signature of a high-class individual. The designers who participate in this event are introduced internationally and widely advertised.

-How are the models taking part in your selected show?

-As for me, I chose the models considering many things. There are eight selected models aged varying from 15 to 19. Their ages are the same as those from foreign countries who are also modelling that week. I wanted our Mongolian models to be on the magazines such as Vogue and Elle and grab attention from photographers. Hence, I chose the models taking into account all of their attributes such as their appearance, height and weight requirements, and their runway walk.

-What creations will you present?

-The Mercedes-Benz Fashion week in Tokyo will identify the 2013-14 winter trends. I have added some elements of Mongolian traditional costumes into the western standard winter clothing. I tried to blend the trends in both eastern and western fashion. Very observant people and professionals in the industry can notice the intricacies of my designs. The materials are mostly textiles and leather.

-It is being said that the runway tracks of your show will be Mongolian music. What songs or musical compositions will be played particularly?

-When the models are walking on the catwalk, some kind of music will, of course, be played. I thought about this for a long time. Bros Records has released a new album, “Yertunts,” (Universe) and its music is based on natural sounds. I really like the album and I offered them to work with me. Accordingly, DJ Uuree is going to make remix of Yertunts to bring it into harmony with my creations.

-What are your future plans?

-Mongolian designers are very competent. However, they don’t have the opportunity for the world to be familiar with them yet. I really wish that clothes by Mongolian designers are sold at one of the world’s best brand shops. I will work hard for this purpose.
