Olympic Champion N.Tuvshinbayar’s surgery successful

State Honored Judoka Athlete of Mongolia, N.Tuvhsinbayar, the Olympic gold and silver medalist, underwent surgery in the USA on Monday and it went successfully, according to various news sites in Mongolia.

N.Tuvshinbayar suffered an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament, one of the major ligaments in the knee joint) injury last summer during the Olympic Judo 100-kg semifinal which he won.  Despite his severe injury, he managed to compete in the final shortly after taking the silver medal and becoming the first Olympic multi-medalist athlete of Mongolia after his gold medal win in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The athlete needed surgical care for this injury and left for the USA last month. He was supposed to undergo surgery before the Tsagaan Sar holiday, but the scheduled operation was postponed due to the seriousness of his injury. He is scheduled to come back to Mongolia on February 28.

N.Tuvshinbayar has been recently appointed as the coach of the Men’s National Judo Team. We wish our national pride, this athlete, good health.
