70th anniversary Union of Mongolian Artists


Established in 1942, the Union of Mongolian Artists (UMA)is the largest, national, non-profit, arts organization, which aims to promote Mongolian fine art and art crafts. The UMA is a member of International Association of Art (IAA) and International Organization of Folk Art (IOV/IOFA), a division of UNESCO. The main goal of the UMA is to promote the works of Mongolian artists (UMA) in Mongolia and overseas and to assist international collaboration of Mongolian artists with their international partners. All the activities of the UMA are intended to contribute in the development of fine art in Mongolia. The Union has membership of more than 500 artists and has sections of painting, graphic art, sculpture, murals and traditional crafts. Many well-known Mongolian artists and art historians are members of the UMA.The UMA carries out annual public and sales exhibitions in Mongolia named “Spring” to promote innovative ideas and young artists, “Beautiful Mongolia” for sale, “Autumn” to acknowledge a best artworks of a year, “Best artworks of a year”, masterpieces of UMA prize winners and other exhibitions abroad. Every year UMA awards artists for their artistic achievements and for the best work of art produced. The 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Union of Mongolian Artists was occurred this year. Celebration meeting was held at Blue Sky Tower. After that, the artists paid respect to monument of Sukhbaatar and Chinggis Khaan.
This time “Autumn-2012” exhibition was held for its 70th anniversary on December 5. Around 130 creations including painting, line drawing, national painting, calligraphy, sculpture and decorating art are showed by 130 artists in this exhibition.
This exhibition has gathered various masterpieces of artists who work by different methods and different orientations and gives audience opportunity to compare them and made own conclusions. The masterpieces exhibited at the exhibition represent the creative success and new prospect of artists.
The artist N.Orkhon’s “Hoshuu noyon Beel” painting, D.Tuvdendorj and N.Odonbayar’s “Gol Golomt (Home flame)” sculpture and M.Uranberh’s “Salhin Khuleg” national painting selected a best artwork of the “Autumn-2012”.
The exhibition in exhibition hall of Union of Mongolian Artists will continue until December 15.
In addition, artist P.Baldandorj is one of the founders of Union of Mongolian Artists. He is the only surviving founder. He is now 84.
