Climbing stairs to success

B.Bolormaa’s third solo endeavor “City Landscapes” presents 17 realistic and contemporary works with neon nuances, and will be on view through March 30 at 976 Art Gallery.
B.Bolormaa graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts and Culture in 2002. She has participated in exhibitions in Sweden, Scotland, and Belgium since 2000. Her previous solo exhibitions were presented at Red Ger Art Gallery in 2012 and Le Bistrot Francais in 2015.
Apart from Ulaanbaatar cityscapes, the exhibition includes exceptional compositional and abstract works. Her work “Up the Stairs”, a painting inspired by mid-day in the 3rd and 4th microdistrict, represents a good omen. “I like reading a lot of parapsychological things. In a dream dictionary stairs are a good omen. I’m envisioning my career rising, like going up the stairs,” the artist said.
Her paintings include a lot of magenta and bright yellows. “Why do city paintings have to be just gray and blue? That’s why I used bright colors. I made these paintings by instinct, and I think these instinctive works reveal a person’s characteristics.
“I actually disliked pinks, but I’ve just been favoring them a lot recently. It may be a shift in perspective or personality,” said B.Bolormaa.
“City Landscapes” is the result of her style transitioning from realism to representational artwork. “Bayanzurkh Market” is one example of this transition. The artist cleverly uses the white of the canvas, which has been generating a favorable response to her work.
I hope her brave transition into contemporary artwork takes her up the stairs she has envisioned.
