State Housing Corporation says apartment rental registration will begin in mid-March

The State Housing Corporation of Mongolia (SHCM) announced that registration for the rental of apartments in the state’s affordable housing program will begin on March 15.
The SHCM had previously announced that they would start registering applicants for the Rental Apartment program on March 1. On Tuesday their office was closed, but a sign was hung outside their door that read: “The Ministry of Construction and Urban Development approved the procedures of the Rental Apartment program of the Government of Mongolia on February 23.  We need to approve another procedure. Please wait until then.”
Minister of Construction and Urban Development Z.Bayanselenge had announced that citizens could gain ownership of the rental apartments through the program if they collected enough money for a down payment. SHCM reported on March 1 that the statement was not accurate. The monthly rental fees collected will be deposited to a state fund that will be used for the construction of more affordable housing. The money will also be used to buy apartments from private construction companies for inclusion in the Rental Apartment program.
The crowd who had gathered at the SHCM office on March 1 seemed indifferent about the program when they found out that they couldn’t buy the apartments. “They are so unorganized,” complained some people who had been waiting outside the agency’s door for three hours.
According to the Vice Director of the SHCM, D.Altankhuyag, there’s no limit set for registration, but the receipt of applications will be conducted for more than five business days. “We have to approve the procedures, choose the organization’s representatives in Ulaanbaatar and other provinces, and train them. We’re planning to start registering people on March 15. Because we don’t have a limit for the number of applications we receive, I ask the public to not worry, panic, or sleep outside our office,” he added.
A total of 929 apartments of 30 to 50 square meters will be rented through the Rental Apartment program. The program was first initiated by the Government of Mongolia in 2014 to provide the residents of re-planned ger districts and decommissioned buildings with immediate housing.
