Mountaineer B.Gangaamaa to climb Carstensz Pyramid


The first Mongolian female mountaineer to climb Mount Everest, State Honored Athlete B.Gangaamaa has announced that she will start a voyage to the highest summit of Mount Carstensz, also known as Puncak Jaya, in Indonesia.

Mountaineer B.Gangaamaa noted that she would start her training next month and climb Mount Carstensz within this year.

“I have to study Mount Carstensz carefully and lose weight to climb,” the mountaineer said.

Mongolian mountaineers have never climbed Mount Carstensz in the past.

B.Gangaamaa has previously climbed Mount Everest (8,848 m), Mount Aconcagua (6,962 m), Mount McKinley (6,194 m), Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) and Mount Elbrus (5,642 m).

Carstensz Pyramid is the highest summit of Mount Carstensz in the Sudirman Range of the western central highlands of Papua Province, Indonesia.

At 4,884 meters above sea level, Carstensz Pyramid is the highest mountain in Indonesia, the highest on the island of New Guinea, the highest on the continent of Australia, the highest in Oceania, and the 5th highest mountain in Southeast Asia. It is also the highest point between the Himalayas and the Andes, and the highest island peak in the world.
