MSF promotes skiing in rural parts of Mongolia

By B.TUNGALAG

The Mongolian Ski Federation (MSF) is carrying out the Skier – Border Guard Program for Border Unit No.0198 of Khalkhgol soum in Dornod Province.
Below is an interview with the Secretary-general of the MSF, International Sports Master E.Ochirsuren, about timely issues.

The MSF is currently working in rural areas. What has the MSF done lately?

According to the plans for 2016, the MSF is organizing some projects in rural areas. We organized a cross-country skiing training among physical education teachers of Khentii Province from January19 to 21. Coach of Aldar Sports Committee, Sports Master B.Enkh-Amgalan, conducted the training. The purpose of the training was to promote cross-country skiing in provincial areas, provide practical and theoretical knowledge to ski instructors and coaches, and to train children for the National Junior Skiing Championship.
After that, we headed to Dadal soum of Khentii Province and organized the Eastern Zonal Championship.
We have recently started the Skier – Border Guard Program for Border Unit No.0198 in Khalkhgol soum in Dornod Province. The program will be carried out until February 2 and International Sports Master B.Byambadorj will lead the program.

Tell us about the Eastern Zonal Ski Championship?

We are doing lots of activities this January. One of them is the Eastern Zonal Ski Championship in Dadal soum. It has been 20 years since the tournament was last organized. The Eastern Zonal Ski Championship was held within the frames of the Darkhan Border – Olympic Torch Relay and was organized by the Mongolian National Olympic Committee and General Authority for Border Protection.
The Mongolian National Olympic Committee and Border Unit No.0287 in Dadal soum helped a lot in organizing the tournament.
The MSF also gave some organizers ski equipment to attract more people to the event. The tournament was very competitive. Over 60 athletes from Khentii and Dornod Provinces participated in the tournament.

Did athletes participate actively in the tournament?

The Eastern Zonal Ski Championship was held from January 21 to 23. Athletes were excited because the tournament was organized with the Darkhan Border – Olympic Torch Relay of the 2016 Summer Olympics. That’s why athletes participated in the championship actively.
Skiers competed in junior, senior and team categories. Athletes of Binder soum, led by Sports Master Khaliunaa, won a gold medal in the team category, followed by Border Unit No.0287 and a team from Dornod and Khentii provinces.
Young athletes were very prominent. Great athletes might come from Khentii and Dornod provinces after a few years.

Mongolian senior athletes were successful in a ski competition in Canada. Can you tell us about this?

Mongolian senior athletes competed in the Winter World Master 2015, which took place in Quebec, Canada, from January 31 to February 8. International Sports Master D.Enkhee won a silver medal in the 20 km cross-country skiing category, and International Sports Master D.Ochirsukh also won a silver medal.
