Weekend traffic restrictions until tsagaan sar

As Tsagaan Sar celebrations approach, traffic congestion in Ulaanbaatar increases, especially during weekends. City officials have decided to enforce license plate restrictions over the next two weekends in order to limit automobile  traffic.
Vehicles that have license plate numbers ending in even digits (2, 4, 6, 8 and 0) are allowed to participate in traffic on Saturday, January 30 and February 6. Drivers of vehicles with license plate numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3 , 5, 7 and 9) are allowed to drive on Sunday, January 31 and February 7.
On Tsagaan Sar celebration days, from February 9 to 11, traffic restrictions will not apply. Schools, daycare centers, banks, and offices will resume regular operating hours on Friday, February 12.
Until 2013, the first couple days of Tsagaan Sar celebrations were public holidays, in accordance with the law on public holidays. On November 28, 2013, the law was amended and made the first three days of Tsagaan Sar celebrations public holidays.
A working group on ensuring traffic safety and proper operations has planned several initiatives to reduce traffic congestion and provide sufficient access to public transportation to city residents during Tsagaan Sar.
On the first three days of Tsagaan Sar, February 9,10 and 11, large and medium-sized buses will serve the public along 62 basic routes and 13 smaller routes around the city. Microbuses will be available for routes to suburban districts. In addition, 497 taxis serving 14 companies will provide on-call services in the city.
The working group, with members appointed by the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office, has announced that two large buses will be running from Chinggis Square and Dunjingarav Trade Center to Khunnu Mall on weekends until Tsagaan Sar, with stops at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m for the duration of the Made in Mongolia – Tsagaan Sar trade fair.
