Secondary schools equipped with science laboratories

By M.OYUNGEREL

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (MECS) opened science laboratories at 200 secondary schools in Ulaanbaatar with a grant from China on January 21.
Education Minister L.Gantumur asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to support the laboratory project to promote independent study skills and encourage experimentation among young people, during Xi Jinping visit to Mongolia last year.
“Students cannot learn science properly by copying theories off of the blackboard. Laboratories allow students to experiment and try out what they have learned, and it increases their interest in science. The most recent example is the creation of soap bars and lip balms for teenagers by two students of the School of Junior Innovators in their science laboratories,” said Minister L.Gantumur.
The ministry opened physics and chemistry laboratories in 428 secondary schools in 2015. All public schools have now been equipped with a physics laboratory with the opening of 200 new laboratories this month. The first physics laboratory to be built through the project was at Secondary School No.2.
