Defense Minister hosts the weekly Hour with a Minister meeting


Defense Minister Ts.Tsolmon took part in the weekly Hour with Minister meeting to report on the work completed and underway by the Ministry of Defense.
The Minister noted that in 2015, a legal environment was formed to revise laws concerning the defense sector with the approval of the document “Root of Mongolia’s Defense Policy”. Ts.Tsolmon underlined that in regard to the approval of the document, the ministry has developed and submitted a draft of amendments to laws on defense, the armed forces, military service, and the legal status of military servants to the Office of the President. The Defense Ministry also initiated amendments to the law on state welfare allowances and pensions for military servants, and is going to submit it to Parliament for discussion. “We are developing a program to expand the armed forces through 2030,” underlined Ts.Tsolmon.
Stating that a construction engineering battalion with orders to keep the peace, carry out construction projects, and to participate in humanitarian operations will be established in Arkhangai and Govi-Altai provinces, the Defense Minister noted that a building serving the armed forces in Orkhon Province will be expanded to serve the construction engineering battalion. The ministry is preparing to send an engineering brigade to the province for peacekeeping operations.
According to Ts.Tsolmon’s report, the Student Soldier Program is successfully being carried out for the second year, enrolling over 1,000 students, and will continue in 2016. Ts.Tsomon emphasized that the ministry is operating to include students from provincial institutes and universities in the Student Soldier Program.
“The Ministry pays attention to servants working in the defense sector, therefore, it has built apartments for 300 military servants, 63 military officials, and has constructed accommodations for 40 families in Bayan-Ulgii and 24 families in Zavkhan Province,” Defense Minister Ts.Tsolmon reported.
