Cabinet in favor of a new bill on tourism

On Monday, Cabinet ministers discussed a draft of a new bill on tourism and approved it on the condition of including suggestions and views shared by ministers. Minister of Nature Environment, Green Development and Tourism N.Battsereg was assigned with developing the bill and bringing it to Cabinet for discussion.
The Law on Tourism was adopted in 2000, and has been amended eight times so far. The bill’s authors believe that the current law is not qualified to enable the sustainable development of the tourism sector, lacks legal grounds, and is not sufficiently resolving the issues the tourism industry faces.
The new law will arrange relations between state organizations, private entities, and individuals which are connected to operations in the tourism sector in Mongolia. It will determine the types of travel and guide services available, the participation of state organizations and tour operators, the relations of state-private partnerships, and economic incentives.
Each year, Mongolia receives 400,000 tourists, creating 50,000 jobs and drawing income of some 260 million USD, which makes up 3.2 percent of the gross domestic product.

  1. tourist is a person who comes for sightseeing and the other visitors can come for business or study or other things. more persons can come from neighboring country as that is easy to come by bus or border cross perhaps.

  2. Mongolia does not receive 400,000 tourists a year. Mongolia possibly receives around 400,000 foreign visitors a year, but at least 80% of these visitors come to Mongolia for work, business or study. The vast majority of visitors are Chinese construction workers.
