City Council approves the 2016 city budget


The 32nd regular meeting of the City Council was held and its members approved the city’s budget for 2016.
The 2016 budget was processed according to government policy and guidelines to reduce operational expenditures. To generate revenue in 2016, the City Council will determine potential income streams. The council says that funds will be spent on implementing the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s development program for 2013 through 2016, fulfilling the city’s 2016 social and economic goals, and Ulaanbaatar economic development strategy fulfillment.
According to the budget, the city’s direct income will be 564.8 billion MNT, and district income will be 134.1 billion MNT. The city’s rural area budget costs were approved at 578.2 billion MNT.
In 2016, social welfare costs will be 101.2 billion MNT, public transportation subsidies were approved at 53.1 billion MNT, the tariff for public transportation entities set at 43.6 billion MNT, city and district improvement spending at 57.3 billion MNT, 3.6 billion MNT was approved for the Friendly Ulaanbaatar program, and public transportation development costs approved for 1.9 billion MNT.
The City Council will spend 5.4 billion MNT on job creation, four billion MNT of which will be spent on supporting micro businesses and one billion to support small and medium-sized enterprises. The Ulaanbaatar City Labor Authority plans to create 15,000 new full time jobs in 2016 and to find regular and temporary employment for 20,000 city residents.
The khoroos, coalitions, and parties within the City Council discussed suggestions from the public and proposed ideas to cut expenditure and spending. City Council members also proposed suggestions including updating the Ulaanbaatar Central Library, implementing a wireless Internet project under the Smart Ulaanbaatar program, upgrading equipment for law enforcement, upgrading equipment for natural disaster prevention, and implementing the Child Friendly Ulaanbaatar program.
