By D.Sergelen

President Ts.Elbegdorj gave a speech at the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21), the United Nations conference on climate change, which kicked off on November 30 in Paris, France.
During his speech, the President emphasized that there are two big challenges facing the world which must be resolved urgently, terrorism and unsustainable global climate change, and he appealed to other countries to effectively fight against these problems with integrated power.
He introduced the Mongolian government’s green development policy and measures being taken by the government to halt climate change and reduce global warming, with proposed suggestions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He suggested charging taxes based on greenhouse gas emissions, calculating greenhouse gas emissions per person, and pledging and raising funds for the UN’s Green Climate Fund. The President said he believes these measures will bring forward a new model for growth.
COP21 was attended by the heads of state and government of 150 countries to continue the assessment of UN member states in addressing climate change, and to negotiate agreements and set goals for greenhouse gas emission reduction.
The National Security and Foreign Policy General Advisor to the President, A.Battur, is also taking part in the conference, which will continue through December 11.
