A Japanese delegation from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, headed by Haruhiko Ando, conducted a state visit to Mongolia from November 23 to 27 to visit mine sites and deposits, and to become acquainted with the implementation of the Tavan Tolgoi railway project.
The Japanese delegation visited the Shivee Ovoo, Tsagaan Suvarga, Oyu Tolgoi, Tavan Tolgoi, and Mushgai Khudag deposits located in Govisumber, Dornogovi and Omnogovi provinces, and were introduced to the construction of the eastern railroad.
On November 22, during Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to Mongolia, Mongolia and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperating on building an eastern railroad for the Tavan Tolgoi coal mine. The memorandum calls for the completion of a feasibility study for the railroad in 2016.
