Mongolia-China joint parliamentary meeting enhances inter-parliamentary cooperation

Yan Junqi, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, has conducted a working visit to Mongolia to attend the joint meeting of a regular prarliamentary exchange mechanism between China and Mongolia, upon the invitation of her Mongolian counterpart M.Enkhbold.
Hosted by the Parliament of Mongolia on Tuesday, this was the first meeting of the permanent talks mechanism between the parliaments of Mongolia and China. The authorities discussed stepping up Mongolia-China relations and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Mongolian Head of the Mongolia-China inter-parliamentary group M.Enkhbold said in his opening remarks that advancement of the ties and collaboration between the two legislative bodies at all levels, and an enhancing of legal fundamentals of bilateral cooperation under the mechanism will become a vital political guarantee for deepening bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
Chairwoman Yan highlighted that the far-sighted moves of the two countries’ leaders and the nations’ inter-parliamentary ties have significantly contributed to the development of bilateral relations. She talked about her views on expanding the mechanism of permanent talks, underlining the importance of promoting negotiations, activating cooperation, and enhancing mutual trust.
The day before their meeting, Speaker of Parliament Z.Enkhbold received the visiting delegation headed by Yan Junqi, and the sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy, infrastructure, agriculture, and other spheres. Chairwoman Yan noted that China and Mongolia are not only neighbors, but are also economic partners. She emphasized that it is vital to promote mutual political trust.
Speaker Z.Enkhbold underlined that the current policy of China on its ties with neighboring countries provides more opportunities to boost not only bilateral relations, but also regional cooperation. He stressed that developing long-term ties, good neighboring relations, and mutually beneficial cooperation is one of the priorities of Mongolia’s foreign policy.
The visiting Chinese parliamentary delegation also called on Prime Minister Ch.Saikhanbileg. Underlining that President Ts.Elbegdorj’s state visit to China this November contributed to advancing Mongolia and China’s mutual comprehensive strategic partnership, Ch.Saikahnbileg expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of a general credit agreement for 1 billion USD, and pointed out that the Mongolian government approved a list of projects that will be implemented with the loan’s capital.
The Prime Minister thanked China for supporting Mongolia’s use of China’s northern and northeastern sea ports for conducting trade, taking into account Mongolia’s landlocked status, and asked that China actively carry out talks on this matter. He also expressed his hope that China would collaborate with Mongolia on railway construction, noting the importance of railway in order to realize bilateral agreements and to increase transit transport.
Concluding her visit to Mongolia, Yan Junqi visited Bogd Khaan’s Palace and saw precious artifacts preserved in the summer and winter palaces of Bogd Khaan. Yan Junqi was accompanied by some twenty officials, including Cao Weizhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Chairman of the China-Mongolia Friendship Group at the NPC; and Yun Fen, a member of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Vice Chairman of the National Committee, and Vice Chairman of the China-Mongolia Friendship Group at the NPC.
