Mongolian Saturday wins the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint

Mongolian Saturday, a Mongolian owned and trained Thoroughbred, won the one million USD Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint held in Kentucky, USA, on October 31.
The five-year old gelding is owned by D.Ganbaatar of Max Group under Mongolian Stables, trained by E.Ganbat, and was bred in Kentucky by Normandy Farm. He was the first horse from an Asian owner to see a win the North American championship series.
Fourteen horses raced in the turf sprint, and Mongolian Saturday was given the 14th position. According to racing experts, horses with the first and last positions typically have an advantage in a race. Mongolian Saturday was given 15-1 odds at the start of the race.
D.Ganbaatar bought Mongolian Saturday for 60,000 USD at a Thoroughbred racing horse auction three years ago, under the guidance of honored trainers D.Onon and E.Ganbat.
The gelding has participated in seven races in the U.S. in 2015, placing a very close second or third in five of those races and winning two.
