Foreign Minister L.Purevsuren’s visit to Italy secures economic and cultural ties

Foreign Affairs Minister of Mongolia L.Purevsuren conducted a working visit to Italy on October 23 and 24, at the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Paolo Gentiloni, strengthening economic and cultural ties between Mongolia and Italy.
During the visit, Minister L.Purevsuren held official talks with Gentiloni and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and relations. Emphasizing that the visit was being conducted within the scope of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Italy, both sides confirmed that the countries want to further develop bilateral relations in the future. They exchanged ideas on all opportunities to improve cooperation and talked about intensifying educational and cultural exchanges, improving direct connections between their private sectors, cooperation in the food sector, as well as the activation of cooperation in trade, economy, and agriculture.
During a meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Italian Senate Pier Ferdinando Casini, the two sides noted the importance of developing and supporting cooperation between the two nation’s legislative bodies – in particular, cooperation between the two administrative offices of their parliaments, in developing bilateral ties. Casini assured Minister L.Purevsuren that the Italian Senate will support the opening of an Italian embassy in Ulaanbaatar, and noted that the Italian Parliament will work to ratify the partnership and cooperation agreement signed between Mongolia and the EU in the near future.

Mongolia-Italy cultural cooperation to be improved

While meeting with Senator Casini, Minister L.Purevsuren also met with Secretary General of the Ministry of Heritage Cultural and Activities and Tourism Antonia Pasqua Recchia, where the parties discussed Mongolia’s interest in improving cultural relations.
During his talks with Secretary General Recchia, Minister L.Purevsuren touched upon enhancing the cultural cooperation between Mongolia and Italy. Opening a Mongolia Cultural Center in Italy, organizing a joint concert and exhibition, exchanging linguists and cultural analysts, as well training interpreters to promote the languages and cultures of both countries was discussed in detail. The Foreign Minister spoke about starting preparations for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will be marked in 2020.
On the sidelines of the visit, Foreign Minister L.Purevsuren visited Milan to see how Italy organized ASEM-2014 and Expo Milano 2015, which is now underway. Minister L.Purevsuren gave opening remarks at the Cultural Day of Mongolia, an event organized as part of Expo Milano 2015 to showcase the culture and history of Mongolia. He also met with the Expo Commissioner General, Bruno Antonio Pasquino, and exchanged views on hosting international events.
While in Milan, Minister L.Purevsuren exchanged views with the Mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, on enhancing ties with Milan, supporting small and medium sized enterprises, and about cooperating with Teatroalla Scala to prepare Mongolian vocalists, narrators, and composers for the world stage.
