Shivee Energy Project to commence

During its regular meeting held yesterday, the Cabinet decided to start the implementation of the Shivee Energy Project for energy export based on resources from the Shivee Ovoo coal deposit.
The Cabinet created a unit in charge of the project under Erdenes Mongol LLC, and assigned Minister of Energy D.Zorigt with providing recommendations for professional management and technical consulting, as well as monitoring the project unit. Executive Director of Erdenes Mongol B.Byambasaikhan was assigned with overseeing the financing of operational costs.
A working group of the Ministry of Energy has organized meetings with the Chinese side of the project, acquainting them with Mongolian laws, its legal environment, and organizing a visit to the Shivee Ovoo deposit to study exploration activities and water resources.
After the visit, the Chinese side concluded that building an industrial complex at the mine for producing 34 million tons of coal annually, an advanced technology air-cooled 9,240 megawatt power station, and a direct current power transmission line of 800 kilowatts was the best solution for the project.
Project supporters say that the Shivee Energy Project will enable Mongolia to produce value-added products and to produce and export energy by utilizing part of the deposit’s 150 billion tons of coal resources.
Officials highlight that the project will be implemented using environmentally-friendly and advanced technology, and that it will draw major investments and benefit the nation’s economy, create jobs, and help develop skilled local personnel.
