Kakuryu M.Anand wins sumo’s Emperor’s Cup

By D.Sergelen

Yokozuna (Grand Champion) Kakuryu M.Anand claimed victory at the September grand sumo tournament, the Aki Basho, which took place from September 13 to 17, and seized the Emperor’s Cup.
On the final day of the Aki Basho, Kakuryu M.Anand defeated fellow Mongolian wrestler Ozeki Terunofuji G.Gan-Erdene.
Terunofuji G.Gan-Erdene, who was leading the Aki Basho, was injured while wrestling Ozeki Kisenosato Yutaka on the 14th day of the Aki Basho. He ended the Aki Basho with 12 wins and three losses.
Kakuryu M.Anand said, “I’m relieved. I haven’t been able to win the Emperor’s Cup since I became a Yokozuna, and it was tough and played on my mind, but I am glad I kept on trying… I thought for a moment, before the playoff, ‘Oh no, is it not going to be again?’ But I was able to wrestle my way in the end.”
M.Anand was promoted to the Yokozuna title last year.
