Public transportation bus drivers hold strike

By M.ZOLJARGAL

Staff of over 20 bus operator companies went on a strike yesterday, highlighting “unfruitful” transportation policy and planning.
The strikers believe the decisions being made for the public transportation sector by the city administrations are unprofessional, and claimed they are responsible for violated interests of bus operators and less number of passengers taking buses.
They demanded the city administrations to provide open job opportunities for the 1,500 conductors who lost their jobs after the smart bus pass system launched, and start paying according to hourly wage system that considers on-duty hours.
They also demanded dismissal of Director of Passenger Transportation Incorporated Authority Ts.Odontungalag citing that she discriminates private bus operator companies in the public transportation sector.
The demands were cited in an official statement which the strikers submitted to Ulaanbaatar City Mayor E.Bat-Uul and the Chairman of the City Council D.Battulga on Wednesday, the day before the strike began.
The 20 companies are a mix of public and privately owned bus operators, including Sutain Buyant and Autobus Negdel, which are contracted partners of the municipal public transportation of Ulaanbaatar.
