Cabinet issues 4.2 billion MNT for study abroad scholarships

Cabinet ministers decided during its recent weekly meeting to dedicate 4.2 billion MNT from the state budget to provide scholarships for 100 students admitted to study at the world’s top universities.
The Ministry of Education carried out the selection of students who are eligible to study at the world’s top universities, starting in the 2014-2015 academic year, with financing from the State Fund for Education. Some 86 students met GPA and admissions criteria and signed contracts with the ministry in 2014 to receive tuition fees. Some sixty percent of those students are studying engineering and technology, and 25 percent have enrolled in medical sciences, environmental safety, and ecology programs, which correlates with the 2012-2016 action plan of the Cabinet.
Selection for the 2015-2016 academic year was carried out in April, where 40 percent of the registered students were accepted at universities ranked in the top 20 around the world.
The selected students sign over real estate in their contract, providing a guarantee that they will return to Mongolia after graduation and fulfill the terms of their agreement with the government.
