Mongolia grabs two golds on Day 1 at World Judo Masters


Two Mongolian female judokas claimed gold medals on Day 1 of the World Judo Masters Mohammed VI 2015 in Rabat, Morocco.
Two male Mongolian judokas have also seized bronze medals on Saturday.
The championship features top 16 rankers of their weight categories in the world every year.
Mongolia was ranking second in the medal tally, with four medals, after Japan, which had six medals as of Sunday, the second day of the championship. The women’s team ranked first, while the men’s team ranked seventh out of 51 participating nations.
Defending Champion of Judo Grand Slam, M.Urantsetseg, faced off against Pareto Paula from Argentina in the women’s 48 kg final and won the match within 1:16 minute. M.Urantsetseg won the preliminary match against Japanese judoka Yamagishi Emi and advanced to the semifinal. She faced Rishony Shira from Israel in the semifinal.
Champion of the Masters Tyumen 2013, D.Sumiya, was the second judoka to bring Mongolia a gold medal, in the women’s 57 kg. Her final opponent was Receveaux Helene from France, whom she beat to claim the gold medal.
In the preliminary rounds, D.Sumiya defeated Smythe Davis Nekoda of the Great Britain and Karakas Hedvig of Hungary. In the semifinal, she fought against Udaka Nae from Japan.
The gold medals brought the judokas 700 points for the Olympics quota place and 6,000 USD in prize.
From the men’s team, two Mongolian judokas secured bronze medals on Day 1, Saturday. Gold medalist of the World Championships Chelyabinsk 2014, G.Boldbaatar, fought in the men’s 60 kg tournament and claimed victory at the bronze medal match by defeating Papinashvili Amiran of Georgia.
Champion of the Incheon Asian Games 2014, D.Tumurkhuleg, beat Korval Loic from France in the men’s 60 kg fight for third place.
