The simplicity of ‘Affection’

By B.NARANTUYA

B.Undram is presenting her first solo exhibition, “Affection”, at the Lilium Gallery & Lounge, through April 3. The exhibition includes oil paintings with bright colors and bold sketches.
The artist says that the exhibition is all about the connection between visitors and the paintings. In the theory of art studies, this connection is called “affection”. The main concept of the theory is that people experience different types of the feelings when they see artistic creations.
B.Undram graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture (MSUAC). After that, she went to Turkey to study and majored in fine arts. Now she teaches at the School of Radio, Television and Media Art of MSUAC.
In speaking to the artist, she seemed like an interesting person who has simple pleasures.
“I think people search for happiness from outside themselves and it makes their psychology complicated somehow. For the paintings, the philosophy is the same. I really don’t prefer paintings with really difficult to understand meanings or themes, unless it is a masterpiece. What I create is very simple and it can be found everywhere in the surroundings of any artist. It is really simple. Through my exhibition I tried to share the idea that the simple things in life are the most precious and greatest things. Even breathing is pleasant. We don’t often notice it,” she said.
In her free time, she loves to listen to music, enjoy delicious food, and take walks. She sees life as the colors of the rainbow. “I feel happiness from the really small things,” she said.
At the end of the talk with her, I asked her about her dreams. She said: “To become a really world famous artist isn’t my dream at all. My only dream is to create good paintings and live healthy and peacefully as well. Not because it is an ambition, but because I love it. I feel enjoyment and satisfaction from it.”
