‘Metamorphosis’

By B.NARANTUYA

Students of the Fine Art Design School of Mongolian State University of Art and Culture (MSUAC) are presenting a group exhibition called “Metamorphosis.” The exhibition is on view at the Union of Mongolian Artists from February 26 through March 7.
Teachers and students of MSUAC are participating in a project called “Mongol Citizen”, a joint project of Mongolia and Germany. The main goal of the project is to improve social and ethics education for students and citizens, as well as to increase the number of people participating in the civic education project.
Dr. S.Molor-Erdene conducted a lecture on the topic of “Art Philosophy” among the students of the Mongolian State University of Art and Culture, through which the “Metamorphosis” exhibition was imagined.
Forty students in drawing, graphic design, print design, line drawing, and costume design classes are participating in the exhibition with 60 artistic pieces.
S.Amarjargal spoke about a mixed media piece called “Future”, my favorite in the gallery.
“The mirror reflection presents the past. We can look at our past lives and can remember our memories; however we can’t touch it or go back to it. For the piece that is coming from the mirror, the dress is the future. Of course, all people think and dream of their future in a good and positive way. In that way, dreams are a bright thing in my mind, so I made the dress white. I study in the costume design class and I wanted to show that clothes are art. We don’t only wear them, but we are able to make an art of it. The dress is a beautiful thing. It is very neat and feminine. That’s why it fits with the name ‘future’,” said S.Amarjargal, a junior at the Fine Art Design School at MSUAC.
She also offered a quote from author Carl Bard, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”
