Mega Project Development Forum held

Yesterday, the Mega Project Development Forum was organized with the government’s support.
A megaproject is a project that requires investment of more than one billion USD, has many participants, is at the center of public attention, and requires solutions for the project’s location and infrastructure.
The government is placing high priority on megaprojects that will define Mongolia’s future, simultaneously delivering an important message to the public and investors.
The forum took place in the presence of Head of the Presidential Office P.Tsagaan, Minister of Mongolia M.Enkhsaikhan, MPs, and other relevant officials.
Minister M.Enkhsaikhan delivered a speech titled “Megaproject: Challenges and Difficulties”, while officials of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation presented “Project Investment and the Government and Private Sector”.
Minister of Mongolia M.Enhsaikhan said, “Mongolia welcomed its three millionth citizen today; Mongolians are Mongolia’s wealth. How to make Mongolians rich depends on how natural resources will be used. I hope that Mongolians watched the Prime Minister’s speech, and as the PM said, we have two choices. First, is to start implementing megaprojects that will expand the economy and improve it. Second, is to cut expenses and tighten the economy. I, personally, choose the first choice: to start implementing megaprojects. This is not a choice that will only support the government. This is the most appropriate message from Mongolia to the world, so I call on you to choose the first choice.”
Head of the Presidential Office P.Tsagaan said, “Other countries implement major projects called megaprojects as pillars of development. The Parliament of Mongolia, and the President understands this issue very well, and that’s why it was decided to have a minister responsible for megaprojects. Mongolia is in a very pleasant political period to implement these megaprojects. That’s why we need to start the implementation as quickly as possible.”
